TOWSON, Md. – Goucher survived each and every dangerous scoring opportunity that McDaniel could muster today until the Green Terror finally broke through and tallied a goal in the 62nd minute to earn a 1-0 victory over the Gophers in the Goucher College Soccer Classic.
The Green Terror (1-1) came close to ending the scoreless tie no fewer than five times in the opening 45:00, but every time junior goalkeeper Justin Holbrook (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Friends School) made a crucial save. It wasn't until 61:24 that an unassisted goal by Shawn Weaver provided McDaniel with a 1-0 lead and ended Holbrook's bid for a shutout.
Holbrook finished with seven saves.
Seven different Goucher players were able to get off shots, but goalkeeper Robert Hollasch of the Green Terror needed to make only one save to earn his shutout.
The Gophers (1-1) held the upper hand in corner kicks as they were awarded 10 during the contest compared to only one for McDaniel.
