TOWSON, Md. – Goucher improved to 4-0 all-time against Hood by pinning a 4-0 setback on the Blazers today at Beldon Field.
With the win, the Gophers are also 3-1 against teams from the Capital Athletic Conference since leaving the CAC following the 2006-07 season.
A corner kick produced the only goal of the first half, scored by T.J. Yumoto (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) at 41:25. Phil Hirsch (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) and Alexis Mathov (Arlington, Va./Wakefield) were both awarded assists on the goal, the first of the freshman midfielder's career.
Midway through the second half, Andrew Eden (Damascus, Md./Sandy Spring Friends School) and Galen Guindon (Wallingford, Pa./Friends Central) both helped set up a goal by Julien Greco (Shutesbury, Mass./St. George's School) that put Goucher (2-1) ahead 2-0.
During the final 10 minutes of the contest, Elijah Lais (Grantville, Md./Northern Garrett) and Andrew Bull (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) notched goals for the Gophers.
Junior goalkeeper Justin Holbrook (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Friends School) lowered his goals-against average for the season to 0.67 by making four saves and earning the second shutout of his career. The Gophers have not allowed a goal in the second half of any of their three games so far in 2008.
