HAVERFORD, Pa. – Goucher got on the scoreboard first, but in a game where all the scoring took place in the second half, Haverford responded with three unanswered goals to secure a 3-1 victory over the Gophers at the Jimmy Mills Soccer Tournament.
The two teams combined for just seven shots in the first half. The Gophers (2-2) finally ended the scoreless tie on a goal by Andrew Bull (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) at 61:26. Julien Greco (Shutesbury, Mass./St. George's School) picked up an assist on the sophomore forward's team-leading third goal of the young season.
The Fords (1-1) trailed for less than four minutes. At 65:11, they were awarded a penalty kick, which Josh Price successfully converted to create a 1-1 tie. At 69:55, a goal by Brian Pepe-Mooney put Haverford ahead for the first time.
It remained a one-goal game until Panos Panidis scored with 4:02 remaining, providing the Fords with a 3-1 advantage.
The Gophers out-shot the Haverford in the second half, 12-8, to finish with a 15-12 edge in shots. At least three of Goucher's shots hit the post and two more times the Gophers missed open nets.
