KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Three players from Goucher are listed as
honorable mentions on the 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association
of America/adidas College Men Scholar All-East Region Team that was
released today by the NSCAA, the largest coaches' organization in
the United States.
The NSCAA's Scholar All-America program recognizes juniors and seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.30 who are significant contributors to their teams and appeared in at least half of the games from the recently completed season. The selection committee reviews both academic and athletic accomplishments of the nominees.
The players from Goucher who were named all-region honorable mentions were junior forward Julien Greco (Shutesbury, Mass./St. George's School), junior midfielder Galen Guindon (Wallingford, Pa./Friends Central) and junior goalkeeper Justin Holbrook (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Friends School).
Guindon, who was a second-team midfielder on the 2007 All-Landmark Conference Men's Soccer Team, supplied the Gophers with one goal and three assists this season. He is a music major with a 3.63 cumulative GPA.
Greco, who has a double major of politcal science and international relations and maintains a 3.75 GPA, finished with three goals and three assists in 2008. As a sophomore, he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Men's Soccer Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America, and this year he repeated on the Fall Landmark All-Academic Team, which recognizes two male and two female athletes who have excelled athletically and academically from each of the eight institutions in the Landmark Conference.
Holbrook, who was the starting goalkeeper for the Gophers in the first 10 games of the 2008 campaign and had compiled a 1.45 goals-against average before suffering a season-ending hand injury, is an education major with a 3.49 cumulative GPA.
