Holbrook Faces Four Shots, Makes Two Saves to Earn Shutout
FREDERICK, Md. – The last time Goucher opened a season against Hood was 2004 and the Gophers were victorious, 1-0. They defeated the Blazers by the same score today to get their 2009 campaign off to a successful start.
Neither team was able to score in the first half of today's contest as they combined to get off only five shots. The Gophers (1-0) picked it up offensively in the second half, however, unleashing a total of 10 shots. They finally got on the scoreboard in the 70th minute on a goal by Julien Greco (Shutesbury, Mass./St. George's School) that was set up by Jay Berger (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) and Dan Brody (Stonington, Conn./Stonington).
Justin Holbrook (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Friends School) started in goal for Goucher, faced only four shots the entire contest and registered the third shutout of his career by making two saves.
The loss dropped the Blazers (0-1) to 0-5 all-time against the Gophers.
