Rosse Puts Goucher Ahead 1-0 with Unassisted Goal at 53:58
TOWSON, Md. – Goucher appeared to be following the same script it used in wins over Hood and Marywood earlier in the week when it took a 1-0 advantage over DeSales in the second half of tonight's championship game of the 2009 Goucher College Soccer Classic.
But the Gophers couldn't hold on to the lead as they did in 1-0 victories over both the Blazers and the Pacers. Instead, they surrendered a goal with 6:41 remaining that created a 1-1 tie and another 3:44 into overtime that provided the Bulldogs with a 2-1 triumph and the tournament title.
It was an unassisted goal by senior forward Evan Rosse (Concord, Mass./Bedford) at 53:58 that put the Gophers (2-1) ahead 1-0. Although the Bulldogs (3-0) outshot Goucher, 10-4, in the second half, they didn't get on the scoreboard until the 84th minute when Tyler Nolan set up a goal by Steve Krause.
Krause also got off the first shot by either team in the 15-minute overtime period, but it was stopped by senior goalkeeper Justin Holbrook (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Friends School). Holbrook finished with six saves.
Tony Aufiero picked up an assist on Derek Long's game-winning goal at 93:44.
