Bull Sets Up Berger's Goal Which Creates 1-1 Deadlock
HUNTINGDON, Pa. – After 90 minutes, Goucher and Juniata were knotted up at 1-1 today, even though the Gophers outshot the Eagles, 13-10.
The Gophers also got off the first three shots of the ensuing 10-minute extra session, but couldn't break the deadlock. Juniata, on the other hand, was able to bring this Landmark Conference contest to a conclusion with its only shot in overtime: Aaron Bray found Andrew Hepner with a short pass from a corner kick formation and Hepner drilled the ball into the net from 18 yards out to give the Eagles a pulsating 2-1 victory.
Since the formation of the Landmark Conference, the series between Goucher and Juniata stands at 1-1-1.
Following a scoreless first half, the Eagles (5-3, 1-1 Landmark) got on the scoreboard first on a successful penalty kick by Andrew Steffen at 65:33. The Gophers (5-4, 0-1 Landmark) answered 2:24 later when Andrew Bull (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) headed a corner kick and found Jay Berger (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan), who deposited the ball into the net for his third goal of the season.
Prior to Hepner's game-winning goal at 93:57, the Gophers managed to take three shots. The first one went wide, the second was blocked and third third one by Evan Rosse (Concord, Mass./Bedford) was stopped by goalie Joe Kohler. Kohler finished with six saves.
