Rosse Tallies Go-Ahead Goal at 75:14 with Bicycle Kick
TOWSON, Md. – Goucher had perhaps as many as four excellent opportunities to score in overtime tonight against Delaware Valley. Had the Gophers capitalized on any of those chances, they'd have been able to celebrate a much-needed victory over the Aggies.
But because the Gophers couldn't put any of their six shots during the two 10-minute overtime periods past freshman goalkeeper D.J. Meisinger, they had to settle for a 2-2 tie.
Playing at home for the first time since September 16, Goucher took a 1-0 lead when senior forward Julien Greco (Shutesbury, Mass./St. George's School) tallied his fourth goal of the season and 16th of his career with :10 remaining in the first half.
The Aggies (6-2-1) answered in the 57th minute, pulling into a 1-1 tie on a goal by Tom Antonucci.
The Gophers (5-4-1) regained the lead at 75:14 when senior forward Evan Rosse (Concord, Mass./Bedford) stuck his team-leading fifth goal of the season, beating Meisinger with a bicycle kick. Rosse's go-ahead goal was set up by senior forward/midfielder Brandon Nicholson (Germantown, Md./Damascus).
There were only 2:10 remaining in regulation when Antonucci scored again for Delaware Valley to create a 2-2 tie.
Meisinger was forced to make a pair of saves in the first extra sessionm and then two more in the second OT to finish with a total of seven.
Justin Holbrook (Claymont, Del./Wilmington Friends School) played the entire game in goal for Goucher and was credited with five saves.
