Gophers Take 1-0 Lead at 4:41 When Gray Sticks Rebound

TOWSON, Md. — It took Goucher less than five minutes to get on the scoreboard tonight against Ursinus, but that also turned out to be the Gophers' only goal of the contest as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Ursinus on Beldon Field.

Tom Gray (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) put the Gophers (6-7-1) ahead 1-0 with an unassisted goal at 4:41. The sophomore defender was the first to get to the loose ball after Ursinus goalkeeper Mike Alfieri made a save on a shot by Galen Guindon (Wallingford, Pa./Friends Central).

The Bears (3-8-1) pulled even on a goal by Tim Brando midway through the first half.

The 1-1 tie lasted for nearly 55 minutes before Ursinus went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Jean Carlo Cordova at 75:15.

In defeating the Gophers for the first time since 1997, the Bears finished with an 11-6 advantage in shots.
