Victory Boosts Goucher's All-Time Record vs. Hood to 6-0
TOWSON, Md. — Elijah Lais (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) had a hand in all four goals that Goucher tallied tonight during a come-from-behind 4-1 triumph over Hood in the season-opening contest for both in-state rivals.
Lais was awarded an assist on a goal by senior forward Andrew Bull (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) at 59:59 that created a 1-1 tie. The junior defender also helped set up a goal by freshman forward Alexander Kovacs (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) at 69:13 that put the Gophers (1-0) in front 2-1.
Just 1:06 after the go-ahead goal by Kovacs, senior forward Dan Brody (Stonington, Conn./Stonington) corraled a loose ball in the box off a corner kick by Lais and snuck it between the goalkeeper and a defender, providing the Gophers with a 3-1 advantage.
Lais became the first Goucher player with three assists in the same game since Ian Kaplan had that many in a 5-3 triumph over Marymount back on Oct. 9, 1996. The school record for most assists in a game by an individual is five and was established in 1991 by Joe Hartman.
The only Goucher goal of tonight's contest on which Lais didn't earn an assist was the one he tallied himself at 73:30 to close out the scoring.
In running their all-time record against Hood in the sport of men's soccer to 6-0, the Gophers outshot the Blazers, 13-6.
