Gophers Nip Nittany Lions, Secure Spot in Title Game

Awaiting head coach Bryan Laut's Gophers in Saturday's championship game is Lebanon Valley, which recorded a 4-1 victory over Greensboro tonight.
The Gophers (2-0) got on the scoreboard first tonight, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Andrew Bull (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) at 28:28. It was the senior forward's second goal of the season and it was set up by senior midfielder Jay Berger (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan).
Even though the Nittany Lions (0-2) were limited to two shots the entire second half, they were able to knot the score at 1-1 on a goal by Jason Stoner at 63:51.
The 1-1 tie held up until the 82nd minute when junior defender Elijah Lais (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) headed a cross from sophomore midfielder Manuel Carranza (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) into the net for his second goal of the season.
The Gophers finished with a 27-4 edge in shots and were awarded 14 corner kicks compared to only two for the Nittany Lions.
