Weiner, Boyce Account for Goals in 2-0 Win Over Greyhounds
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Goals by Brandon Weiner (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok A. Magruder) and Adam Boyce (Fallston, Md./Fallston) propelled Goucher to its third Landmark Conference victory of the season this afternoon, a 2-0 triumph over Moravian.
With the win, the Gophers (6-9-1, 3-4 Landmark) passed Scranton and moved into a tie with Susquehanna for fourth place in the Landmark Conference standings.
Weiner put head coach Bryan Laut's squad ahead 1-0 at 9:06 by heading in a free kick by Nate Margolis (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North), who was awarded his team-leading fifth assist of the season on the play.
Elijah Lais (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) and Hudson Bielecki (Olivebridge, N.Y./Onteora) both picked up assists on the play that started with a corner kick and culminated in Boyce tallying his third goal of the season at 16:40.
That still left the Greyhounds (3-13, 0-6 Landmark) with more than 73 minutes in which to mount a comeback, but the Gophers were able to protect their lead as senior goalkeeper Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) made five saves in earning his third shutout of the season.
Goucher finished with an 18-14 advantage in shots in just its second victory over Moravian since the formation of the Landmark Conference.
