Lais, Weiner Join Group of Second-Team Selections
MADISON, N.J. — Elijah Lais (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett), one of the all-time leading scorers in the history of the Goucher men's soccer program, and Brandon Weiner (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok A. Magruder), who started all 16 games for the Gophers this season and developed into the top defender on the team, are both members of the 2011 All-Landmark Conference Men's Soccer Team.
The team was released in its entirety today and is made up of 24 student-athletes who were chosen through balloting by the conference's eight head coaches. The selections were made by position and 12 players were placed on the All-Landmark first team and the remaining 12, including Lais and Weiner, on the second team.
Lais supplied the Gophers with four goals and four assists for a team-leading total of 12 points in 2011 to become only the seventh player in program history to score at least 20 goals during his career. He was credited with the game-winning goals in 1-0 victories over Penn St. Berks on Sept. 3 and Juniata on Oct. 1.
Weiner, one of only three freshmen to earn All-Landmark accolades, represented Goucher on the all-tournament teams at both the Goucher Soccer Classic and the Jimmy Mills Tournament. In addition to being a key component of a defense that allowed opponents to average 2.06 goals per game and record four shutouts, he had a hand in four goals by scoring three times and picking up one assist.
