Margolis Sticks PK in First Half, Picks Up Pair of Assists

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Goucher had to overcome a pair of one-goal deficits in regulation just to reach overtime and managed to get out of the first 10-minute extra session without surrendering a goal even though Washington (Md.) got off five shots. The Gophers were rewarded in the second OT for their efforts with their first victory of the season.

Parker Bay (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) brought the non-conference contest to an end when he scored off a cross in transition from Nate Margolis (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) at 104:54, providing head coach Bryan Laut's squad with an exciting 3-2 victory in double overtime.

Margolis was also awarded an assist on a goal by Bay at 77:47 that allowed the Gophers (1-2-1) to pull even with the Shoremen at 2-2.

Successful penalty kicks by Washington's Justin Geho at 27:08 and Margolis at 28:46 accounted for all of the scoring in the first half, which ended with the two teams deadlocked at 1-1.

The Shoremen (1-2), who finished with a 25-18 edge in shots, regained the lead at 68:54 on an unassisted goal by Matt Wilfong.

Ethan DeBandi (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), making his first start in goal for the Gophers, was credited with five saves during regulation and another one in the first OT period.
