Own Goal Gets Gophers on Scoreboard vs. Bobcats

Witte Faces 20 Shots, Turns In Eight-Save Performance

FROSTBURG, Md. — Once Goucher sliced a 2-0 lead for Frostburg St. in half midway through the first half of tonight's game, the Gophers were able to keep the score at 2-1 for more than 40 minutes. The Bobcats, however, were able to tack on another goal in the 68th minute and then held on for a 3-1 victory.

The Bobcats (12-1-4) got on the scoreboard less than five minutes into the contest when Ryan Russell corralled a ball to the right of the net and stuck a shot into the lower left corner. Russell also picked up an assist on a goal by Alex Brainard at 23:06 that made the score 2-0 in Frostburg's favor.

The Gophers (4-10-1) closed to within 2-1 on an own goal. After the keeper made a save on a shot by Goucher's Nate Margolis (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North), one of Frostburg's defenders unintentionally knocked the ball into the net.

Kunie Akinfeleye restored the Bobcats' lead to two goals when he knocked in a rebound at 67:47.

The Gophers were limited to eight shots, while the Bobcats were able to get off 20 attempts.

Scott Witte (Wall Twp., N.J./Wall) played all 90 minutes in goal for Goucher and made eight saves.
