Gophers Stay Within Goal of Mustangs Until 87th Minute

STEVENSON, Md. — Despite being outshot 18-3, Goucher made it out of the first half of tonight's game against Stevenson locked in a scoreless tie. The Mustangs, however, managed to score twice in the second period to earn a 2-0 victory over head coach Bryan Laut's squad.

Nicholas Stolarz (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson), a freshman making his fourth consecutive start in goal for the Gophers, kept Stevenson off the scoreboard by making five saves in the first half. It wasn't until the 52nd minute that the Mustangs (4-2-1) finally solved Stolarz as Yianni Sarioglou sent a ball into the box that Adrian Alic booted into the net.

The 1-0 score held up until Sarioglou tallied an unassisted goal with 3:04 remaining.

Pat Carey, who went the distance in goal for Stevenson, made a save on a shot by Brandon Weiner (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok A. Magruder) in the 63rd minute and stopped an attempt by Parker Bay (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) in the 79th minute to pick up the shutout. Weiner unleashed his shot from inside the box and Bay let loose from the top of the box.

Goucher's next game is against St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
