Sept. 12 – TOWSON, Md. – Thanks to a career week in net for the Goucher men's soccer team, Gopher sophomore goal keeper, Daniel Hendry, has been named the Landmark Conference's Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Hendry as a stable presence for the Gophers, who tallied a 2-0-1 mark in non-conference action last week. Goucher earned victories over Penn State-Harrisburg (1-0), as well as Hood College (3-2), while also notching a tie with Rosemont (1-1).
In the win over Harrisburg, Hendry made nine total saves to post his second shutout of the season. He then mirrored the save total in the double-OT draw with Rosemont.
In the victory over previously unbeaten Hood, Hendry saw 33 total shots, making a career-high 19 saves to help the Gophers take the double-overtime win. The Blazers came into the game as the Middle Atlantic Conference's (MAC) top scoring offense (4.25/game) before Hendry held them to a pair in 101 total minutes.
The sophomore goal keeper, who was named a Second-Team All-Landmark Conference selection last season, has played at a high level to open the season, helping Goucher remain undefeated through five games. He currently leads the Landmark in total saves (53), while ranking second in save percentage (.941). His 10.1 saves per game also ranks tops in the League.
Hendry and the Gophers will return to action on Wednesday evening as they start a five-game road stretch at Dickinson College. The matchup with the Red Devils is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
