Lycoming Edges Gophers Late in Landmark Lid-Lifter

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Lycoming College broke a 1-1 tie with just over 13 minutes remaining to post a 2-1 Landmark Conference men's soccer victory over Goucher College at Beldon Field Saturday afternoon.
- Goucher (4-3-2, 0-1 Landmark) goalie Ale Sternini made his first save just over three minutes in.
- Rafael Berhanu put a shot on goal a minute later that was stopped by Lycoming (6-2-1, 1-0) goalie Jace Bennett.
- In the 19th minute, Jonathan Alvarado had a shot blocked by a Warrior defender.
- Just under 20 minutes in, Keller Chamovitz hit the post with his shot for Lycoming.
- Michael Adekanmbi put a shot on in the 29th minute that Bennett turned aside.
- With 1:43 left in the first half, Kenny Clapp collected a ball in the box and one-timed it past Sternini for a 1-0 lead.
- Goucher tied the game just over six minutes into the second half.
- Off a long restart, Harryson Jean played a ball to Adekanmbi on the far left post. Adekanmbi sent a cross in that Will Frasier knocked home on a diving header for his third goal in the past four games.
- Adekanmbi sent a shot high just over a minute later.
- Chamovitz had a shot saved by Sternini in the 62nd minute.
- Adekanmbi sent a header over the crossbar with 20 minutes remaining.
- With 13:09 remaining, Thomas Geier played a ball in from the left to Christian Woobay who knocked it home to put the guests back in front.
- Sternini made one final save in the 84th minute.
- The Warriors held a 21-11 shot advantage and took six of the game's eight corner kicks.
- Bennett recorded three saves, while Sternini posted eight stops.
- Adekanmbi led Goucher with three shots.
- Lycoming moved to 3-0 all-time with Goucher, with the Warriors winning the first two meetings last season, including a win in the Landmark semifinals.
- Goucher is back in action next Saturday, traveling to Juniata for a 3:30 pm Landmark match.
- The Gophers are back home after three straight on the road Wednesday, October 16, hosting Susquehanna at 7 pm at Beldon Field.
