Gophers Battle Rangers to Scoreless Draw

TOWSON, Md. - Junior goalkeeper Ale Sternini made 11 saves en route to his fifth shutout of the season as the Goucher College men's soccer team played Drew University to a 0-0 tie in Landmark action Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field.

• Sternini made his first two saves of the game for Goucher (5-6-3, 1-4-1 Landmark) just over a minute apart in the seventh and eighth minutes.
• In the 21st minute, Andres Aristimuno had a shot saved by Drew (7-6-3, 1-4-1) goalie David Hoyt.
• With eight minutes to go in the half, Michael Adekanmbi had a shot from the top of the 18 that was handled by Hoyt.
• Eian Waples had a shot saves by Hoyt with three minutes to go.
• Sternini made six saves in the opening 45 minutes.

• Sternini made his first save of the second half four minutes in.
• Adekanmbi had a header saved by Hoyt in the 57th minute.
• Two minutes later, Adekanmbi rang the crossbar on a deep shot.
• Anthony Ketelsen had a header turned aside in the 72nd minute.
• A minute later, Sternini made a save on a Kevin Kiernan shot.
• Sternini made three saves in the final 10 minutes to preserve the shutout.
• Jonathan Alvarado had a shot that went just high from near midfield in the final seconds.

• Drew outshot Goucher 22-13 and took eight corner kicks to the Gophers' four.
• Sternini made 11 saves, while Hoyt recorded six stops.
• Sternini recorded his fifth shutout of the season and 15th of his career, placing him one behind the program record of 16 held by Tom Feuerstein and Daniel Hendry.
• Aristimuno led the Gophers with five shots.

• Goucher remains home on Wednesday, entertaining Catholic University in a 7 pm Landmark contest at Beldon Field.
