Gophers Edged by Cardinals

TOWSON, Md. - A goal just over 17 minutes in proved to be the difference as Catholic University edged Goucher College 1-0 in Landmark Conference men's soccer Wednesday evening at Beldon Field.

• Goucher's (5-7-3, 1-5-1 Landmark) Jonathan Alvarado had a shot saved by Catholic (7-5,3, 4-0-3) goalie Owen Allegro just over two minutes in.
• Gopher goalie Ale Sternini made his first save in the 13th minute.
• Just past the 17-minute mark, Ryan Kuegler scored off an assist by Ryan Kelly to make it 1-0.
• Allegro stopped a shot by Harryson Jean with just over 12 minutes left in the half.
• Sternini stopped a bid by Hayden Lim in the 38th minute.
• Elliot Bezdek sent a shot high with a minute to go in the half.

• Andres Aristimuno had two shots in the first minute of the second, with one blocked and one going wide.
• Kuegler had a shot stopped by Sternini a minute later.
• Allegro stopped shots just under a minute apart by Aristimuno and Jonathan Adima.
• Sternini had two saves 1:18 apart in the 58th minute.
• Alvarado had a deep shot stopped by Allegro with 16 minutes to go.
• Allegro stopped another Alvarado bid with eight minutes remaining.

• Both teams had 15 shots on the evening, with the Cardinals taking six of the game's eight corner kicks.
• Sternini recorded six saves, while Allegro made seven saves en route to the shutout.
• Alvarado and Aristimuno paced the Gophers with four shots apiece.
• All five of Goucher's setbacks in conference play have been by one goal.

• Goucher plays its final road game of the regular season Saturday, traveling to Elizabethtown College for a 3:30 Landmark College game.
• The Gophers step out of conference next Wednesday, October 30, hosting Washington Adventist in a 7 pm game at Beldon Field.
