BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College men's soccer team (5-5-3 overall; 1-3 conference) hosted Juniata College in the second game of a Beldon doubleheader (7-2-5 overall; 2-0-2 conference). A strong second half from the Eagles, led them to a 2-0 victory.
Juniata opened the half with the first three shots before the Gophers responded in the ninth minute, generating two quick shots and a pair of corner kicks. The Eagles' best first-half chance came in the 12th minute, when a header hit the post. Senior, Andres Aristimuno capped the half with two attempts in the final minutes.
Goucher came out aggressive to start the second half, firing two early shots, but Juniata broke through shortly after with a goal that came off a corner kick (52:32). Just seven minutes later, the Eagles doubled their lead and held firm for the remainder of the game. Despite trading shots late, the Gophers were unable to find the back of the net.
The Eagles outshot the Gophers 16-10, and earned one more corner (5-4) in the competition. Ale Sternini recorded two saves off the four shots on goal, while three different Gophers recorded two shots in the contest.
The men head on the road to face Lycoming College on Tuesday, October 14th at 7pm. They return home to host Moravian on Tuesday, October 21st.
