BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College men's soccer team (7-6-3 overall; 3-4 conference) hosted the Moravian University Greyhounds (7-5-4 overall; 3-1-3 conference) on Beldon Tuesday night. A strong second half from Moravian's offense propelled the Greyhounds to the 4-1 win over Goucher.
Moravian recorded the first shot of the contest in the seventh minute, but Bryan Machado quickly responded with an attempt that forced the Greyhounds goalkeeper to action. Both sides traded shots through the opening period, with Ale Sternini making his first save in the 22nd minute. Moravian's attack found momentum late in the half, firing off four shots before breaking through for the opening goal at 35:18. Two additional shots by the Greyhounds ended the half, giving them the 1-0 lead at the break.
Andres Aristimuno opened the second half with a header, which was stopped by the Greyhounds goalkeeper. In the 52nd minute, Moravian converted on a corner kick to double their lead. Goucher's offense began to rally behind Aristimuno and Machado, and in the 72nd minute, first year, Declan Ritchotte, found the back of the net to bring the Gophers within one. Moravian answered just minutes later, to restore its two-goal advantage, then added a final goal in the 82nd minute to secure the 4-1 victory.
Moravian outshot Goucher 22-10, and held the 5-3 edge in corners. Sternini recorded 85:08 in net, and made four saves, while Ryan Dizayee entered for the final 4:52 and added one save. Aristimuno and Machado led the team with four shots apiece.
The men's will close out their home schedule on Saturday, October 25th at 3:30pm, the second game of a soccer doubleheader. They will wrap up the regular season on the road at Susquehanna on Tuesday, October 28th at 7pm.
