Verin Produces Fastest Times in Three Individual EventsNovember 11, 2006
WASHINGTON, DC — Despite taking first place in seven
of the nine individual events, Goucher couldn't produce enough
points to secure its first victory of the season today. Instead,
the Gophers (0-6) lost to Gallaudet, 107-86.
Sasha Verin (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) was a
triple winner for the Gophers as he placed first in the 200-yard
individual medley (2:12.93), 100 butterfly (:59.66) and 100 back
(1:02.97). Mac McDonald (New Port Richey, FL/Avon Old
Farms) produced the fastest times in the 1000 free
(11:56.20) and 500 free (5:42.20), plus he was runner-up in the 50
free (:24.05).
Goucher's remaining two first-place performances came from
Michael Polonchak (Harpers Ferry, WV/home school)
in the 200 free and Derek Ford (Syracuse,
NY/Jamesville-DeWitt)in the 100 free. Polonchak completed
his event in 2:04.12; Ford's winning time in the 100 free was
:56.35.
The Gophers immediately found themselves trailing, 15-0, because
they were unable to enter a foursome in the 200 medley relay.
Still, they battled back to trail by only two points, 80-78,
following McDonald's victory in the 500 free.
