Gophers Slip to 0-2 with 145-115 Loss to Cardinals

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Goucher's Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) placed first in three individual events today in the Gophers' 145-115 loss to Catholic.
Shalamanov's first victory was in the 200-yard freestyle where his winning time was 1:52.53. He also touched first in the 100-yard butterfly (:56.72) and 100-yard breast (1:05.10).
Shalamanov wasn't the only Goucher swimmer with multiple first-place performances against the Cardinals today as Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) posted the fastest times in the 50 back (:27.07) and 100 back (:58.88).
Sasha Verin (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) placed first in the 1000 free (11:17.36 and was runner-up in the 200 individual medley (2:15.49). Michael Ambrosio (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) placed second in the 50 breast (:31.89).
In the relays, Goucher (0-2) took both first and second place in the 400 free and second in the 400 medley. Devin Myles (Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area), Ambrosio, Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) and Keith Costa (Valencia, Spain/Westtown School) made up the victorious 400 free relay, which completed the event in 3:48.23.
