WASHINGTON, D.C. – Five different swimmers placed first in an individual event for Goucher this evening in a 125-79 triumph over Gallaudet, the Gophers' first win of the 2007-08 season.
Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) turned in a pair of first-place performances against the Bison as he touched first in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. His winning times were :10:40.98 in the 1000 free and 2:11.50 in the 200 IM.
The other Goucher swimmers who won an event were: Sasha Verin (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) in the 200 free (1:58.78), Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) in the 100 butterfly (1:01.39), Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) in the 100 free (:52.15) and Steve Baum (Fallston, Md./Fallston) in the 100 breast (1:12.66).
Shalamanov, Verin, Rooney and Williams made up Goucher's victorious 200 free relay which posted a time of 1:33.70. The Gophers (1-2) also opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay where Michael Martin (Elizabeth, N.J./The Frisch School), Michael Ambrosio (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber), Rooney and Devin Myles (Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area) were clocked at 1:53.34.
