Shalamanov Breaks Pool Record with Winning 200 IM Time

GLENSIDE, Pa. –Not only did Goucher produce the top performer in all nine individual events and the fastest entry in both relays in today's meet against Arcadia, but head coach Tom Till's Gophers also set two new pool records during their solid 119-37 triumph over the Knights.
Seven different individuals turned in first-place performances for the Gophers (2-3). Two of the seven placed first in a pair of events: Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) in the 100-yard breaststoke and the 200-yard individual medley, and Sasha Verin (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) in the 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle.
Shalamanov completed the 100 breast in 1:04.45 and broke the pool record with his time of 2:06.42 in the 200 IM; Verin's winning times were :59.57 in the 100 breast and 5:28.32 in the 500 free.
The other Goucher swimmers who took first place in an individual event were: Michael Martin (Elizabeth, N.J./The Frisch School) in the 1000 free (12:40.41), Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) in the 200 free (2:03.34), Devin Myles (Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area) in the 50 free (:25.87), James Genco (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) in the 100 free (1:00.72) and Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) in the 100 back (:58.59).
The Gophers were uncontested in both the 200 medley and 200 free relays, but their winning time of 1:48.59 in the 200 medley relay is also a new pool record. Goucher's victorious 200 medley relay was composed of Williams, Verin, Rooney and Shalamanov.
