Royals Take Charge, Pin 127-73 Loss on Gophers
HUNTINGDON, Pa. Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) placed first a pair of individual events and was on Goucher's victorious 200-meter medley relay team this afternoon, but the Gophers still were handed a 127-73 setback by Scranton in Landmark Conference action.
Shalamanov First to Finish in 50 Free, 100 Butterfly
HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad,
Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) placed first a pair
of individual events and was on Goucher's victorious 200-meter
medley relay team this afternoon, but the Gophers still were handed
a 127-73 setback by Scranton in Landmark Conference action.
Shalamanov's first-place performances were in the 50-meter freestyle, which he completed in :24.94, and the 100-meter butterfly (1:01.63).
Charlie Rooney (Sea Bright, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) of the Gophers turned in a time of :56.69 in the 100 free, good for first place, and Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:03.49).
The winning time in the 200 medley relay was 1:54.94 and the four swimmers who represented Goucher (1-4, 0-3 Landmark) in that event were Williams, Shalamanov, Rooney and Kevin Wons (Bedford, N.H./Souhegan).
Michael Ambrosio (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber) was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.69).
The Royals (4-1, 1-0 Landmark) produced not only the top performer but also the runnerup in four individual events.
