Gophers Bow to Royals, Remain Stuck on One Win

Williams Completes 100 Back in :56.30, Good for First Place

SCRANTON, Pa. — Goucher's Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton), the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke at the 2010 Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, placed first in that event today in a meet against Scranton.

The Royals (2-2, 1-0 Landmark) defeated the Gophers, 120-61.

Williams' winning time in the 100 back was :56.30. He also placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.99).

Goucher had a second first-place performance in today's meet: Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) touched first in the 200 individual medley as he completed the event in 2:04.28.

Kevin Wons (Bedford, N.H./Souhegan) and John Vincent (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) were both runners-up in an individual event for the Gophers (1-4, 0-3 Landmark). Wons placed second in the 500 free (5:27.69) and Vincent in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.08).

Dean Silverman (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) and Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) both took third place in the pair of individual events: Silverman in the 1650 free (19:23.61) and 500 free (5:37.25); Leonard in the 50 free (:23.09) and 100 butterfly (:57.06). Jordan Gaeta (Lawrenceville, Ga./Conserve School) placed third in the 100 free (:57.53).
