Pair of First-Place Performances for Leonard, Williams
TOWSON, Md. — Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) both placed first for Goucher in a pair of contested individual events, helping the Gophers come out on top of Arcadia, 105-70, this afternoon.
Leonard's first-place performances were in the 50-yard freestyle, which he completed in :23.23, and the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.17); Williams touched first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.17) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:34.27).
The Gophers (2-4) also took first place in the 200 medley relay, the 200 individual medley and the 100 free.
Goucher's entry of Kevin Wons (Bedford, N.H./Souhegan), Brendan McFadden (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), Patrick McNeel (Flagstaff, Ariz./Flagstaff) and Jordan Gaeta (Lawrenceville, Ga./Conserve School) was victorious in the 200 medley relay (1:51.33), giving the Gophers an early 11-4 lead over the Knights (1-5).
Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) and Wons provided Goucher with a 1-2 finish in the 200 IM. Shalamanov's winning time in the event was 2:03.12.
McFadden earned nine points for the Gophers and Dean Silverman (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) picked up four points by placing first and second, respectively, in the 100 free. McFadden's winning time was :52.20.
In addition to being runner-up in the 200 IM, Wons placed second behind Williams in the 200 back (2:14.45). Gaeta was the runner-up to Leonard in the 50 free (:26.00), while McNeel took second place in both the 200 free (2:09.89) and 200 butterfly (2:25.11).
Silverman was runner-up in the 500 free (5:31.30).
