Shalamanov Sets Pool Records in 200 IM, 100 Breast

Gophers Bow to Pair of CAC Opponents, Drop to 2-6 Overall

YORK, Pa. — Goucher's Georgi Shalamanov (Velingrad, Bulgaria/St. St. Kiril & Metodi) set new facility records in two events today as the Gophers were competing against two Capital Athletic Conference teams.

The Gophers were beaten by Salisbury, 127-78, and York, 134-70. The Spartans (7-4) were also victorious over the Sea Gulls (3-3), 124-81.

Shalamanov broke pool records with his first-place performances in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. He completed the 200 IM in 2:01.24 and the 100 breast in 1:00.30. Both of those times are all-time personal bests for the junior in those two events; in addition, only one individual in the history of Goucher's men's swimming program has ever posted a faster time in the 100 breast.

The Gophers (2-6) got off to a excellent start in the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay. Goucher's entry of Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton), Shalamanov, Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Brendan McFadden (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) placed first with its time of 3:42.98.

In the individual events, the only other first-place performance for Goucher other than the two by Shalamanov was in the 100 backstroke where Williams touched first in a time of :55.66. Williams also took third place in the 500 free (5:15.50).
