Gophers Occupy Fifth Place at Landmark Championships
READING, Pa. — Goucher came away from the two relay events that were contested tonight with 54 points and sits in fifth place with a total of 95 points after the opening day of the 2012 Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships.
Williams, McFadden Advance to Finals in 500 Free, 50 Free
READING, Pa. — Goucher came away from the two relay events that were contested tonight with 54 points and sits in fifth place with a total of 95 points after the opening day of the 2012 Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships.
Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton) and Brendan McFadden (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) both made it into the championship finals of an individual event. Williams finished fifth overall in the 500-yard freestyle with his time of 4:56.56, earning 14 points for the Gophers, and McFadden secured another 11 points with his eighth-place performance in the 50 free (:22.27).
Two other Goucher swimmers were in the consolation finals of the 50 free: Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) took 12th place (:22.76) and Daniel Montoya (Chihuahua, Mexico/ITESM Campus Chihuahua) followed in 15th place (:22.92).
Matthew Brower (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) was the first to finish in the consolation finals of the 200 individual medley, placing ninth overall (2:03.33).
The entry of Williams, Leonard, Montoya and McFadden picked up 28 points for its fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:29.31) and the foursome of Brower, Montoya, Leonard and Williams represented Goucher in the 400 medley relay and placed sixth (3:42.95) to gain 26 points.
