Gophers Top Knights, Bison for First Two 2011-12 Wins
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher didn't pick up just its first victory of the 2011-12 season today. Instead, the Gophers conquered both opponents they faced this afternoon in the von Borries Aquatic Center as they defeated Arcadia, 64-30, and Gallaudet, 68-27.

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher didn't pick up just its first victory of the 2011-12 season today. Instead, the Gophers conquered both opponents they faced this afternoon in the von Borries Aquatic Center as they defeated Arcadia, 64-30, and Gallaudet, 68-27.
The Knights (2-3-1) and Bison (3-2-1) finished in a 47-47 tie.
Goucher had two entries in the 400-yard medley relay and they took the top two spots in the event. The foursome of Kyle Williams (Andover, N.J./Newton), Daniel Montoya (Chihuahua, Mexico/ITESM Campus Chihuahua), Matthew Brower (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) and Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) was clocked at 3:58.75 to grab first place. Second place went to the unit of Colin Hemond (Chicago, Ill./Northern), John Vincent (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt), Patrick McNeel (Flagstaff, Ariz./Flagstaff) and Brendan McFadden (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), which completed the event in 4:22.16.
Four different individuals accounted for the four first-place performances the Gophers (2-4) achieved: Williams touched first in the 50 freestyle (:23.48), Leonard bested the field in the 200 individual medley (2:15.72), Nicko March (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) was the top entrant in the 100 free (:52.40) and Brower registered a winning time of 2:01.37 in the 200 backstroke.
Williams added a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:13.24) to his victory in the 50 free and March was the runner-up in the 200 free (1:57.90) prior to his performance in the 100 free. Also placing second in an individual event for the Gophers were Dean Silverman (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) in the 1,000 free (11:19.10) and McFadden in the 200 butterfly (2:23.76).
In the meet's final event, the Goucher entry of March, McFadden, Montoya and Brower placed first in the 400 free relay with its time of 3:28.98.
