Richter Breaks School Record, Places Fourth in 100 Fly
SCRANTON, Pa. — Goucher's Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) set a new school record on the way to a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at the 2013 Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships this evening.
Gophers Move Up to Sixth Place, Nine Points Back of Catholic
SCRANTON, Pa. — Goucher's Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) set a new school record on the way to a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at the 2013 Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships this evening.
Richter owned the record of 53.28 seconds heading into the three-day meet and missed breaking it during the preliminaries this morning when he posted a time of :53.35, but in the finals, he was clocked at :52.69.
Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) also made it into the championship finals of the 100 butterfly where he finished in eighth place with a time of 54.52 seconds.
Richter also came in seventh in the 200 freestyle as he touched in 1:50.64.
Goucher's top finish on the meet's second day was the third-place performance by Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) in the 100 backstroke. He turned in the the fastest time of 54.20 seconds during the preliminaries before completing the event in :53.97 during the finals.
Three Goucher swimmers secured points in the 100 breaststroke. Brian Cha (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lakeridge) picked up 13 points for finishing in sixth place with his time of 1:01.25, while Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) and Brendan McFadden (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) both made it into the consolation finals. Nelson was awarded six points for placing 11th overall (1:02.50) and McFadden added two points to the Gophers' haul for winding up in 15th place (1:03.67).
Goucher's entry of Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends), McFadden and the Richter twins broke the school record in the 800 free relay by completing the even in 7:18.10, which was good for fifth place. In the 200 medley relay, C. Richter, Nelson, Leonard and Davis teamed up to place fourth overall (1:37.69), which put another 30 points in the Gophers' pot.
With the 133 points it earned today, head coach Thomas Till's squad passed Drew and sits in sixth place with 187 points after 14 events. The Gophers trail fifth-place Catholic by only nine points heading into the meet's final day.
