Seahawks Stay Unbeaten, Pin 135-70 Setback on Gophers

Cha Places First in 50 Free, Finishes Second in 100 Breast
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — Goucher produced the first-place performer in only three individual events during today's meet against St. Mary's (Md.), which was won by the Seahawks, 135-70.
The first Goucher swimmer to finish in first place was Brian Cha (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lakeridge) in the 50-yard freestyle. Cha's winning time was :22.57.
Prior to Cha's victory in the 50 free, the Gophers (0-3) did take second in every event, starting with the 200-yard medley relay where the entry of Matthew Brower (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis), Cha, Charlie Leonard (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) was clocked at 1:47.12.
Danny Carroll (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) followed with a second-place effort in the 1000 free as he completed the event in 10:31.87. Next was the 200 free and Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) turned in a time of 1:48.73, touching 1-tenth of a second after Cameron Hedquist from St. Mary's.
The Seahawks (4-0) took first, second and third in the 200 individual medley, but then Richter recorded a time of :54.47 to win the 100 butterfly. The only other event in which the Gophers (0-3) claimed first place was the 100 backstroke where Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) bested Dylan Cope from St. Mary's by 88-hundredths of a second by finishing in :56.40.
Caroll was also runner-up in the 500 free (5:10.01) and Cha placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.04).
