SCRANTON, Pa. — Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) took first place in the 50-yard freestyle by 1-hundredth of a second and Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) touched first in three events, but Goucher still came up short against Marywood, 153-96, in a clash of Landmark Conference teams this afternoon.
Davis completed the 50 free in :22.58, earning nine points for the Gophers (3-6, 1-5 Landmark). Second place went to Marywood's Dan Adams (:22.59).
Richter's first-place performances came in the 200 free and the two butterfly events. His winning time in the 200 free was 1:47.19; he was clocked at :54.39 in the 100 butterfly and 2:05.44 in the 200.
Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) was the runner-up in three events: the 100 breaststroke (1:05.55), the 200 individual medley (2:11.92) and the 200 breast (2:23.49). Patrick McNeel (Flagstaff, Ariz./Flagstaff) placed second in the 500 free (6:23.23).
Today's meet against the Pacers (9-3, 5-1 Landmark) was the final one of the regular season for head coach Thomas Till's squad, which now begins to prepare for the Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships that will be held here Feb. 7-9.
