Gophers Take First in 500 Crescendo Free, 300 Breast

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Entries from Goucher finished in first place or were the runners-up in five of the nine events that were conducted today at the Schweikert Relays.

The 500-yard crescendo freestyle relay and the 3 x 100-yard breaststroke relay were the two events in which the Gophers were victorious during the non-scoring meet. The second-place performances by head coach Thomas Till's swimmers came in the 400-yard free relay, the 3 x 100-yard butterfly relay and the 400-yard medley relay.

Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) led off for Goucher in the crescendo relay, in which each of the four entrants swim 50 yards more than the swimmer ahead of them. Davis covered the opening 50 yards and was followed, in order, by Dalton Delp (Summerville, S.C./Ashley Ridge), Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) and Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne). The combined time of the four swimmers was 4:23.60.

In the 3 x 100-yard breast, the winning time of 3:15.72 was achieved by Colin Richter, Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) and Delp.

The Richter twins, Delp and Davis formed the entry which placed second in the 400 free relay with its time of 3:20.55.

In the 3 x 100-yard butterfly relay, Morgan Richter led off, Jerel McCord (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) followed him and Ben Shriner (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) put the finishing touches on an effort that took 2:51.61 to complete, good for second place.

Goucher's entry in the 400 medley relay consisted of Spencer Saunders (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne), Nelson, Delp and Colin Richter and posted a time of 4:00.34.

Up next for the Gophers is a quadrangular meet at Frostburg State one week from today. The other two teams scheduled to compete are Hood and Stevenson.
