TOWSON, Md. — Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne), who won all four races he participated in during Goucher's home meet against Marywood on Saturday, has been recognized as the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for January 13-19.
This is the second time Richter has received the Landmark's weekly honor this season. The junior was a perfect 3-for-3 in individual races on Saturday, and he has now won all eight races he has competed in against Landmark competition this season. Against the Pacers, Richter posted victories in the 100-yard backstroke (55.56), the 200 back (2:03.62) and the 200 individual medley (2:00.52). He won each race by at least two seconds, and cruised to a 7.78-second win in the 200 back.
Richter began the meet by swimming the first leg of Goucher's winning 400 medley relay team which also included Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont), Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) and Sam Davis (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends). The foursome completed the race in 3:44.61, over 12 seconds faster than their nearest Marywood competitors. The Gophers won 11 of 14 races overall on Saturday, but the Pacers rallied late for a 136-126 victory.
Goucher's swimming program has now earned three Landmark Athlete of the Week awards in 2014-15, and the Gopher athletic department has received 11 weekly awards overall.
Richter returns to the pool with the rest of his teammates on Saturday, January 31 at Merchant Marine for a tri-meet against the host Mariners and fellow Landmark rival Drew. That meet will begin at 1 p.m.
