HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Despite a 1-2-3 finish in the 800-meter freestyle and three first-place performances by Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne), Goucher came up short in this afternoon's dual meet against Scranton.
The Royals defeated the Gophers, 124-81.
Ben Shriner (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) took first place in the 800-meter freestyle and two additional Goucher swimmers completed the event ahead of Scranton's top performer in the event. Shriner's winning time was 9:33.90; Justin Prendergast (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) was the runner-up (9:42.02) and Ian Furst (North Reading, Mass./homeschooled) placed third (9:47.23).
The first of Richter's three first-place performances was in the 200m free, where he was clocked at 2:04.33. The second was in the 200m individual medley (2:21.41) and the third in the 100m backstroke (1:02.79).
Shriner also took second place in the 400m free (4:42.04).
Blake Rhodes (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) was runner-up in the 50m free (:26.35) and 100m butterfly (1:03.70); Jerel McCord (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) took third place in the 100m butterfly (1:04.38).
Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) prevented a 1-2-3 finish by the Royals (3-1) in the 100m breaststroke by completing the event in 1:13.44, good for third place.
The Gophers (2-4) are scheduled to compete in a dual meet at home against Catholic on November 21.
