TOWSON, Md. — Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) secured 18 points for Goucher by placing first in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley, but those were the only two first-place performances in individual events for the Gophers in today's meet against Catholic that was won by the Cardinals, 126-77.
The Cardinals (4-1) had opened up a 53-21 lead through four events before Richter scored his victory in the 200 IM. His winning time was 2:03.42.
Richter was clocked at 1:59.84 in the 200 back, which ties the fastest reported time in that event this season in the Landmark Conference. Catholic's Guido Saccaggi took second place (2:00.05).
Second-place finishes for Goucher came from: Ben Shriner (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:50.74), Jerel McCord (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side) in the 200 free (1:57.68) and 200 butterfly (2:07.69), Blake Rhodes (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) in the 50 free (:23.33) and Cody Nelson (Duanesburg, N.Y./Schalmont) in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.57).
With the Goucher entry of Geo Graham (Jacksonville, N.C./White Oak), Andrew Rowland (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), Andrew Coon (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) and Rhodes placing first with its time of 1:37.46, the Gophers managed to outscore the Cardinals, 15-0, in the 200-yard free relay.
The only event remaining on Goucher's 2015-16 until the new year begins is the Yellow Jacket Invitational, which will take place Dec. 4-5 at the Poseidon Aquatics Center in Richmond, Va.
