RICHMOND, Va. — Goucher scored 32 points in the two relay events that were contested during tonight's opening session of the Yellow Jacket Invitational, but the Gophers came up with only three additional points in the individual events and stand in ninth place in the team scoring heading into the final two sessions on Saturday.
Two entries from Goucher scored points in the 200-yard freestykle relay. One that included Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne), Jerel McCord (Fort Wayne, Ind./South Side), Blake Rhodes (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) and Andrew Coon (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) earned 18 points for a ninth-place finish (1:29.15); another composed of Andrew Rowland (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), Geo Graham (Jacksonville, N.C./White Oak), Justin Prendergast (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) and Ben Shriner (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) picked up a single point for finishing in 16th place (1:35.76).
The Gophers secured 12 points for an 11th-place finish by the entry of Richter, Prendergast, Coon and Rhodes in the 400-yard medley relay. That quarter completed the race in 3:42.33.
Shriner accounted for the three points, which he earned for a 14th place finish in the 500 free (4:56.81).
