TOWSON, Md. — Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne), the reigning Landmark Conference champion in three events, was named the Male Swimmer of the Week in the conference today for the seven-day period ending January 31.
The senior accounted for the only first-place performance by a Goucher swimmer in a meet against Loyola (Md.) on Jan. 29 as he was the first to touch in the 100-yard butterfly (:51.83). In the 50 butterfly, even though he was the runner-up, Richter's time of 23.73 seconds eclipsed the Landmark record of :24.36 established back in 2011-12 by Goucher's Charlie Leonard.
The following day in a meet that included Drew and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Richter was the top performer in the 100-yard freestyle (:48.40) and the 200 butterfly (1:55.47).
Richter will attempt to defend his titles in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 500 free when the Gophers compete at the 2016 Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be conducted February 12-14 at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center in Boyds, Md.
