INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — While some Goucher students will be spending their Spring Breaks in such locales as Daytona Beach, Fla. and South Padre Island, Texas, Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) is headed for Greensboro, N.C.
Which is exactly where he wanted to go, since the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships will be conducted there March 16-19.
The NCAA Division III Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving Committee today announced the participants for the annual championship event, being hosted this year by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Richter will be one of 527 participants (479 swimmers and 48 divers) in the combined men's/women's meet.
Richter provisionally qualified to compete at NCAAs in the 200-yard butterfly with his performance in that event at the 2016 Landmark Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Championships. On the way to his fourth straight conference 200 butterfly title, he set new meet and school records with his time of 1:49.74.
Richter and 18 other male swimmers met the qualifying time of 1:50.06 established by the committee.
The 2015 Division III national champion in the 200 butterfly was Alex Anderson from Mary Washington and his winning time was 1:44.93.
Richter will also compete in the 100-yard butterfly in Greensboro.
"I'm just so proud of and excited for Morgan," head coach Thomas Till said when he learned that Richter was on the participant list. "This was more than four years in the making and it took an incredible amount of training. I hope the whole Goucher community joins me in wishing him well in Greensboro."
