TOWSON, Md. — Just days before he is slated to represent Goucher in two individual events at the 2016 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C., Morgan Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) was announced today as the Landmark Conference's 2015-16 Senior Scholar Athlete for the sport of men's swimming.
A recipient of the conference's most exclusive academic award must carry a minimum GPA of 3.20 and criteria for selection includes accomplishments in all areas of college life, including athletics, academics and other extracurricular activities. A committee of conference officers, athletic directors and sports information directors selects one Senior Scholar Athlete per academic year for each of the 20 sports for which the Landmark Conference crowns a champion.
Richter, who was also recognized as the Landmark's Male Swimmer of the Year for 2015-16, is a history major with a 3.48 cumulative GPA. He is the 2014 recipient of Goucher's Josephine E. Fiske/Gopher Pride Award for sportsmanship, citizenship, positive attitude, leadership and service to young adults or children, and the 2015 recipient of Goucher's Ruth Baird Thompson Award for academic excellence and sportsmanship in an athletic endeavor.
Over the course of his four seasons with the Gophers, Richter claimed nine Landmark titles. He is a four-time champion in the 200-yard butterfly and three-time first-place finisher in the 100 butterfly, and is entered in both of those events the the Division III national meet.
His other two conference titles were in the 500-yard freestyle.
Richter becomes the 14th student-athlete from Goucher to be selected Senior Scholar Athlete in the Landmark Conference since the honor was first handed out in 2007-08.
