Gophers Open Home Slate with Strong Performances Against Juniata
BALTIMORE, MD - The Goucher College men's swimming team hosted Landmark Conference opponent, Juniata College on Friday afternoon in the home opener at the Von Borries Aquatic Center. Despite the podium finishes for the Gophers, the Eagles won 199-47.
The Gophers 200 Yard Medley Relay team, consisting of Aiden Grimm, Yi Yue, Ben Graff, and Joshua Contreras earned the first points of the meet with their third place finish, touching the wall just 0.01 second behind the second place team (1:52.06).
Olivia Barnes secured points in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, placing third with a time of 14:09.32.
In the 50 Yard Backstroke, Graff and Grimm earned second and third, finishing less than a second apart, and just over a second behind the event winner. Graff later claimed a first place finish in the 50 Yard Butterfly with a time of 25.68.
Yue secured a second place finish in the 50 Yard Breaststroke (33.32), and followed it up with another podium appearance in the 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:13.19). Contreras earned his podium finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly with his time of 59.78.
Grimm placed third in the 50 Yard Freestyle (25.55), narrowly edging teammate Christian Houck, who finished close behind (26.15).
To close out the meet, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Contreras, Graff, Grimm and Yue, took second with their time of 1:40.37.
The Gophers return to action next Friday, October 24th, where they face Elizabethtown and Immaculata in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania for a 5pm start.
