Gophers Finish Regular Season with Win Over Gallaudet
WESTMINSTER, MD - The Goucher College men's swim team traveled to McDaniel College to face the hosts and Gallaudet University. The team split the afternoon, ending with a win over Gallaudet, 63-13, while falling to McDaniel, 66-27.
Olivia Barnes added the first points for the Gophers after finishing second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, with her time of 13:33.45. Later, she added a fourth-place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:24.81).
Josh Contreras recorded his first podium finish after finishing third in the 200 Yard Freestyle with his time of 2:04.10. Later in the meet, he recorded first in the 100 Yard Butterfly, after completing the race almost two seconds ahead of his competitor (58.05).
Teammates Ben Graff and Aiden Grimm added second (24.88) and third-place (25.26) finishes in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Graff finished just 0.87 seconds behind first. In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Graff added another second-place finish with his time of 54.02, while fellow senior Christian Houck finished third (1:01.29).
In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Grimm finished third with a time of 1:03.36. Following closely behind was Yi Yue, who touched the wall four seconds later. Graff and Yue recorded second (5:53.16) and third (5:53.98) in the 500 Yard Freestyle, less than a second apart from each other. However, Yue edged out his opponent by 0.05 seconds to earn first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
Rounding out the evening was the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team, consisting of Contreras, Barnes, Houck, and Grimm, who finished seconds with a time of 4:14.24.
This meet concludes the regular season for the Gophers. They are set to compete in the Landmark Conference Championships at Mangione Aquatic Center on the campus of Loyola University, starting on Feb. 12.
