After a stellar athletic and academic career at St. Mary’s (Md.), Kelly Heyde joins the Goucher swimming program for her first season as a graduate assistant in 2013.
A four-time team MVP and two-time St. Mary’s Female Athlete of the Year, Heyde is the current school record holder in five separate events (400m IM, 200m butterfly, 1000m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 800m freestyle relay). Heyde was a 12-time Capital Athletic Conference champion who holds conference records in the 400m IM and 200m butterfly. She became the first swimmer in CAC history to win the same three individual events in four consecutive years, and she was a 16-time CAC Swimmer of the Week. Heyde qualified for the NCAA championships on three separate occasions. An immediate success on the collegiate level, she was the St. Mary’s and CAC Rookie of the Year in 2010.
Academically, Heyde was a two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, earning the distinction in her junior and senior years, including a 3.93 grade-point average as a senior. She graduated with a B.A. in English and minors in art and art history. At Goucher, Heyde is pursuing a master’s degree in education.
Originally from Wilton, Conn., Heyde has served as a swim coach since she was 15. Most recently, she was an assistant coach at The Lake Club in Wilton.
