Gophers Top Crusaders for Fourth VictoryGoucher Drops Only Three Games in Doubles Play

TOWSON, MD — Five wins in singles play and a sweep
of the three doubles matches added up nicely for Goucher today as
the sum total was an 8-1 triumph over Susquehanna.
All five of the Gophers' victories in singles play were achieved in straight sets. At No. 1, Andrew Ortiz (Silver Spring, MD/Gonzaga) whipped Todd Adams of the Crusaders 6-0, 6-1; at No. 2, Wynn Thane (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) knocked off Matt Mitchell 6-3, 6-0.
Other winners in singles play for Goucher (4-8) were Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, NY/Solomon Schechter) at No. 3, Chris Covey (Exeter, NH/Exeter) at No. 4 and Mike Simon (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) at No. 6.
The Crusaders (1-5) earned their lone point with a win at fifth singles.
The Gophers dropped only three games in doubles play. At No. 1, Ortiz and Thane polished off Adams and Mitchell, 8-2.
