PHILADELPHIA, PA — Goucher attained its first
victory of the 2006-07 today, a convincing 9-0 triumph over
Chestnut Hill.
The Gophers (1-2) dropped only three games in sweeping the three
doubles matches. At No. 1, Wynn Thane (Chambersburg,
PA/Mercersburg Academy) and Andrew Ortiz (Silver
Spring, MD/Gonzaga) posted an 8-0 win over Shane Lesher
and Garret Senior; Doug Mangi (Hamden, CT/Hamden
Hall) and Mike Simon (Palo Alto, CA/Palo
Alto) prevailed by the same score over Jim Stewart and Dan
Vizak at No. 3.
Goucher won all six singles matches in straight sets. Ortiz and
Thane were dominant at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively: Ortiz downed
Lesher 6-0, 6-1 and Thane topped Ryan Karle 6-1, 6-0. The Griffins
won only nine games in singles play.
