Spring, MD/Gonzaga) and Chris Covey (Exeter,
NH/Exeter) both extended their winning streaks in singles
play to three matches today during Goucher's convincing 9-0 victory
Ortiz, competing at first singles for the Gophers, defeated Drew Robarge 6-1, 6-0; Covey, in the line-up at No. 3, finished off David Reinhart 6-3, 6-1.
The Gophers (2-3) won the remaining four singles matches in straight sets: Wynn Thane (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) downed Chas Wirick 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, NY/Solomon Schechter) topped Edgar Contreras 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, Mike Simon (Paol Alto, CA/Palo Alto) was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Sam Harris at No. 5, and Doug Mangi (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall) coasted past Saeed Abdi 6-0, 6-0.
Ortiz and Thane combined to win their fifth doubles match of the season as they defeated Robarge and Wirick, 8-2, at No. 1.
