Gophers Bow to Green Terror in Final Fall Match

Weiss, Blackman Suffer 8-1 Setback at No. 1 Doubles

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's short fall season concluded today when the Gophers sustained a 9-0 loss at home to McDaniel.

The Gophers (0-2) were able to win only four games during doubles competition. At No. 1 doubles, Ben Faber and Chad Palman defeated Billie Weiss (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) and Brett Blackman (Philadelphia, Pa./J.R. Masterman), 8-1; at No. 2, Justin Ward and Steve French turned back Dave Hemelt (Carney, Md./Loch Raven) and Seth Manfield (Bethesda, Md./Emerson Prep), 8-3.

The Green Terror (1-1) took all six singles matches in straight sets. Faber prevailed over Weiss 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Ward knocked off Hemelt 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 and French was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Manfield at No. 3.
